Out Of Touch With Reality #1

“We should be seeing numbers in the 500,000 jobs created per month. This is way, way off from what should happen in a normal recovery.” – Mitt Romney criticizing Obama regarding the latest job numbers.

#####

“To the casual observer, notching 500,000 jobs might sound high but not unreasonable, considering the economy was shedding more than 800,000 jobs in some months during the depths of the recession.

Still, it seems high. So we checked: how many times has the economy generated 500,000 net nonfarm jobs in one month?

The answer: not many. Since 1970, it’s only happened five times. Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton, amid strong economic times, only logged one 500,000-plus month each, in 1983 and 1997 respectively. President Obama had one in May 2010, thanks to temporary hiring related to the decennial census. (And remember, regularly hitting 500,000 should get easier over time as the population grows.)

Presidents George H.W. Bush and son George W. Bush had no months with more than 500,000 jobs gained. Neither did Presidents Gerald Ford or Richard Nixon.

In fact, the president with the most since 1970? Jimmy Carter, who racked up a gain of 513,000 jobs in March 1978 and 702,000 in April 1978.” –Source? None other than the Wall Street Journal.

But millions of people driving rusted out 15 year-old cars will vote for this guy in November who builds elevators for HIS cars. There’s no accounting for STUPID!

Yes, I’m Liberal And Proud Of It #1

The REALLY sad thing about it is that while Mittens builds elevators for his Cadillacs and his wife shows up on morning t.v. shows wearing $1,000 blouses millions of people who drive 15 year old rusted out wrecks and who would be thrilled if they could make $1,000 a MONTH will be voting for this creep in November actually believing that he has their interests at heart.

There’s going to be more like this in the coming days, weeks and months. If you don’t agree with me, so what! I could care less and don’t expect to see your comments posted, either. This is NOT a free-speech zone. Want to support Mittens and the Republithugs then start your own damn blog!

Fighting The Urge

Every couple of weeks I take the bus to Bugaba to visit this cigar factory to get my supply of nicotine.

(Photo from Don Ray’s fine http://www.chiriquichatter.net/blog/)

It sits up a fairly steep grade out of downtown Bugaba on the road to Volcan and Cerro Punta, so I ride the bus up to the factory and then walk back down into the town simply because I like the exercise, saying hello to the residents who live beside the sidewalk and, well, just because I like walking down the hill.

On the way there is a bar I pass that’s closed in the mornings. It’s the bar’s door that tugs at the imp hidden away inside me.

There are two rather substantial padlocks that secure the door.

The dark side of my soul wants to buy a lock just like those two, fix it to the door and keep the key.

1,000 Cups of Coffee

I’ve written about coffee a few times on this blog. After all, I live near some of the finest coffee fincas in the world and I enjoy my morning cup or the local brew a great deal.

Today I ran across the following blog which documents Kim Bt’s goal to drink and photograph 1,000 cups of coffee with friends.

There are also a lot of coffee links on the blog that are worth checking out.
