oldsalt1942:
Was thinking back to the summers when you and I worked together at Philbrick’s Snack Shack on Nauset Beach. You drove the old Pink and White Jeepster. That was over 50 years ago.
Yep, Franny Higgins and I killed it off one rainy day on an excursion over to Hyannis. It used to take a quart of oil to make the round trip from our house on Skaket Road to the Shack and haul the garbage. I was told NOT to take the Jeep over to Hyannis, but Franny and I figured if we stopped every 10 miles or so and added a quart of oil we’d do okay. The damned engine seized up on the MidCape in Harwich on the return. Of course my dad wouldn’t get the thing fixed and I had to pay Bushy Freeman to haul the Shack’s trash for the rest of the summer. It took about 80% of my weekly check. My dad was a great one for object lessons.
